A 29-year-old mother in Sutton Coldfield has shared her experience of being followed and intimidated while out running with her two young children. The distressing incident unfolded last Saturday morning, May 16, when the woman was pushing her children in a pushchair through the town centre.
After running from Mere Green to Sutton Coldfield, the mum waited at a bus stop on Lower Parade, opposite McDonald’s, intending to catch a bus home. She noticed a man wearing a grey tracksuit with his hood up nearby. Seeking to pass the 15-minute wait comfortably, she entered the Gracechurch Shopping Centre with her children.
However, she soon realized the man was following her throughout the shopping centre, trailing her as she walked towards Costa Coffee and near the River Island store. The man repeatedly stared at her, maintaining an uncomfortably close distance, which made the mother feel harassed and threatened.

At one point, the mum sought help from a delivery driver at Silver Tree Bakery. Overwhelmed and in tears, she was welcomed inside the bakery, where staff offered her a safe space to sit and a comforting coffee. The delivery driver observed the man board an X4 bus heading toward Falcon Lodge.
The mother described the terrifying experience: “This happened in broad daylight on a Saturday morning. I should feel safe running through my town centre, especially with my children. No one should endure this kind of harassment.”
The mother reported the incident online, revealing other women have shared similar experiences in the area. She urged greater respect and awareness of women’s safety, emphasizing that men should keep their distance and avoid unnecessary staring.
West Midlands Police confirmed they are investigating the incident, having contacted the woman to ensure her wellbeing. They encourage anyone with information to contact them referencing log 3170 of 19 May.
