A 42-year-old man from Pontefract admitted to drink-driving after police followed him along the M6 motorway, the court heard.
Beaven Gundu was stopped near junction 10 on the evening of Wednesday, 29 July, after officers observed his driving. The father of two, who lives on Colwyn Terrace, was found to be over the legal alcohol limit when breathalysed.
Gundu blew 46 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, above the legal limit of 35 micrograms, according to evidence presented at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 1 September.

Prosecutor Ms Begum explained: “At 9.30pm, two officers responded to a report and followed the blue Audi Q4 to junction 10. The preliminary breath test indicated the driver was over the limit. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.”
During mitigation, Mr Singh stated that Gundu had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and fully cooperated with authorities. “He had a few drinks at home and didn’t realise he was over the limit. He deeply regrets getting behind the wheel in that condition and would not have driven had he been aware of his intoxication,” said Mr Singh.
The court heard that Gundu is the sole provider for his family and relies on his driving licence to operate his bike delivery business.
Gundu was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined a total of £1,065, which included a £700 fine, a £280 victim surcharge, and £85 in prosecution costs.
