Most UK Households Should Pay No More Than £28 a Month for Broadband, Says Which?

Consumer advocacy group Which? has uncovered that the majority of UK households should not be paying more than £28 per month for broadband. Their analysis highlights that many users may be overpaying for their internet service, with some even facing what amounts to a financial “rip-off.”

Even when considering premium full fibre broadband packages, there are numerous competitive deals priced below the £28 threshold. Yvette Fletcher, principal researcher and writer at Which?, commented, “Many consumers aren’t taking advantage of the wide range of affordable and competitive broadband offers currently available.”

A significant finding reveals that over one-third of broadband customers are not under contract, which often leads them to being charged costly standard rates that tend to increase annually.

“Our research indicates that if your broadband bill exceeds £28 per month, it is likely you are paying more than necessary for your connection,” Fletcher added.

Among the standout full fibre deals identified are Sky’s Full Fibre 150 (150Mb) for £25.00 per month, Virgin Media’s M250 Broadband Only (264Mb) at £25.99 monthly, and NOW Broadband’s Full Fibre 100 (100Mb) at £26.00.

For partial fibre options, competitively priced packages include Plusnet’s Fibre (66Mb) at £22.99, Vodafone’s Fibre 2 (67Mb) at £24.50 a month, and Sky’s Superfast (67Mb) at £25.

Fletcher encourages anyone paying more than £28 a month to consider switching providers. “Switching broadband suppliers is one of the best strategies to get better value for your money. Our research consistently shows that switching can save consumers an average of £105 annually, with even greater savings possible if you’re with one of the Big Four providers.”

“The process is straightforward, with the new provider managing the switch seamlessly,” she explained. “We have also created a simple, three-step guide to help consumers make the switch easily.”
