Morrisons has become the first UK supermarket to equip all its male toilets with sanitary bins, marking a significant step in improving accessibility and dignity for men living with incontinence. This rollout spans the retailer’s entire supermarket estate and aligns with The Bog Standard guidelines, which were developed collaboratively by the phs Group and Prostate Cancer UK.
David Scott, Morrisons' corporate affairs director, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “We are proud to be the first supermarket to meet The Bog Standard guidelines in every one of our stores.” He emphasised the importance of responding to customer needs, noting, “By listening to our customers and working closely with both organisations, we recognise the challenges many men face when living with incontinence.”
Scott added that providing these facilities is a vital step toward making customers feel more confident and supported during their visits, while also enhancing nationwide access to appropriate amenities.

Nick Ridgman, head of support services at Prostate Cancer UK, highlighted the ongoing issue that many men’s toilets lack sanitary bins needed for discreet and hygienic disposal of used pads. He commented, “It’s causing men stress and shame and keeping them from going out, heading to work or even doing the things they love.” Ridgman praised Morrisons for making its stores more welcoming and accessible to all employees and customers, hoping this move encourages other companies to follow suit.
Matthew Brabin, chief executive of the phs Group, also commended Morrisons for being a trailblazer in the sector. “We thank Morrisons for leading the way in its sector by installing bins in every supermarket across the UK, and we hope other household names will follow to support men living with incontinence,” he said. Brabin stressed the unfairness men face when lacking access to such a simple facility and applauded Morrisons for effecting this change.
Morrisons joins the competitive supermarket market alongside Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Aldi, and Lidl, setting a new standard for inclusivity and care in customer facilities.
