Morrisons has announced a new initiative across 420 stores, allowing shoppers to reclaim the 10p charge on delivery carrier bags simply by returning them to the delivery driver. This move reinforces Morrisons’ commitment to sustainability and recycling.
Currently, Morrisons charges 10p per carrier bag used during delivery, as required by law. However, customers who hand back their carrier bags to the driver during their next delivery will receive a refund of the bag charge on their final receipt.
According to the Morrisons website: “It is a legal requirement for us to charge for carrier bags. In the areas that we deliver shopping in carrier bags, they are charged at 10p each. You can, however, hand your carrier bags back to the driver and the charge will be refunded on your final receipt. Carrier bags that we take away are recycled so they can be used again.”

This eco-friendly policy encourages customers to participate in recycling efforts while saving money. The returned bags are properly recycled and reused, reducing waste and environmental impact.
In addition to this sustainable initiative, Morrisons is also engaging younger shoppers by giving away free oranges on England and Scotland football match days during the tournament group stages. This tradition harks back to the classic grassroots football custom of orange slices at half-time.
The free fruit giveaway builds on Morrisons’ ongoing commitment to promoting healthy eating. Since 2018, Morrisons has offered free fresh fruit to children in all its stores, supporting families in meeting their recommended 5-a-day fruit and vegetable intake.
Jacob Uren, Senior Citrus Trader at Morrisons, explains: “Encouraging children to enjoy fresh fruit has long been important to us at Morrisons, and orange slices are such a nostalgic part of football culture. We hope our free oranges help keep little fans refreshed, energised and ready to cheer on England and Scotland this summer.”
