Midlands Towns Shine in Britain’s Best Places to Live Rankings

A Midlands town has been recognized as one of the best places to live in Britain, according to a recent survey where residents themselves rated their local areas.

While studies ranking the best towns and cities are common, this latest list stands out because it reflects the genuine opinions of those who call these places home.

Locals from towns and cities throughout Britain were asked to share their feelings on the quality of life and overall happiness linked to their hometowns. Their responses shaped a definitive ranking of the country’s happiest places to live.

Two Midlands locations emerged as clear favorites, both securing spots within the top 12 nationwide, highlighting them as some of the most desirable places to call home in Britain.

Leamington Spa took the top spot in the Midlands and ranked 12th nationally. This charming Warwickshire town is surrounded by picturesque countryside and strikes an ideal balance—close enough to major cities like Birmingham and Coventry for convenience but far enough to maintain a peaceful, community-focused atmosphere.

Close behind at 13th place is Lichfield, an elegant Staffordshire city renowned for its stunning cathedral and rich history.

Other notable mentions include Stratford-upon-Avon, Shrewsbury, Tamworth, and Worcester—all placed within the top 40. These results come from a comprehensive list compiled by the property website Rightmove.

Securing the title of the happiest place to live in Britain was Skipton, a scenic market town located on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

However, not all areas fared as well. Walsall, an industrial town in the Black Country, ranked 216th out of 220, making it the fifth least happy place nationally. Nearby cities Birmingham, Dudley, and Wolverhampton also scored low on the happiness scale, finishing 209th, 201st, and 200th respectively.

This survey offers a valuable look into the diverse experiences of Britain’s residents, showing that the Midlands boasts some truly desirable places to live despite challenges faced by certain industrial towns.
