Residents across the West Midlands, including areas like Northfield, Birmingham, and Halesowen in Dudley, have reported significant delays in receiving their mail, with some not having seen a postman for over 11 days. One anonymous resident from Halesowen told BirminghamLive, “Since the New Year and before the storm, I have not seen a postie in the Halesowen area since before Christmas.” He also mentioned being notified that mail sent on January 5th has yet to arrive.
The delays have caused frustration among residents, with some reporting extended wait times—up to an hour—to speak with customer service representatives.
In response, Royal Mail acknowledged the issue, attributing the backlog to a combination of severe weather, including the impact of Storm Goretti, and ongoing challenges with staff sickness, absence, and recruitment. However, the company emphasized that most customers are still receiving deliveries at least every other day.

Royal Mail also clarified that high-volume mail senders, such as NHS trusts and banks, often use their ‘economy’ service, which may delay delivery until it can be combined with first or second-class items or up to five working days after posting. This can result in multiple items arriving simultaneously, which some customers might interpret as delays.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said, “Severe weather conditions and resourcing challenges have had an impact on deliveries in the last two weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and our posties are going above and beyond to ensure deliveries return to normal as quickly as possible.”
Despite these challenges, Royal Mail assures customers that efforts are underway to restore regular delivery schedules across the affected regions.
