Midlands Towns Brace for 12cm Snowfall as Date of Arrival Confirmed

The Midlands region faces a substantial snow event next week, with up to 12 centimeters predicted to blanket several towns starting Tuesday, February 17. Weather data from WX Charts, based on MetDesk information, highlights the Pennines as one of the worst-affected areas, with some places in England expected to see up to 12cm of snow, while the Scottish Highlands brace for an astounding 97cm.

The snowfall is forecast to spread across northern counties, including Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and Derbyshire — the last of which includes key Midlands towns such as Derby, Matlock, Muxton, and Swadlincote.

Jo Farrow from Netweather TV explained the developing weather pattern: “A low pressure system will move eastwards over Germany and northern Poland into the Baltic States. Meanwhile, a secondary low named ‘Nils’ will cross France, causing trailing weather fronts over Portugal and Spain — regions already struggling with floods from previous storms.”

Farrow added: “France is under multiple weather warnings, including rain, wind, flooding, landslides, and thunderstorms, while nearby Spain and Portugal face ongoing coastal and flood concerns.”

Looking ahead, the BBC Weather forecast for Thursday, February 12, anticipates: “Cloudy conditions for most regions, with rain moving northwards across southern England. The southwest will enjoy sunny spells amid windy weather. Scotland and northern England will experience patchy rain and hill snow.”

As night falls, expect widespread cloud cover with rain turning to snow over higher ground in Wales and northern England. Scotland will see cold temperatures with clear spells and snow showers progressing through northern and eastern areas.

Residents in the Midlands should prepare for the upcoming snowy conditions as the cold weather sets in.
