Midlands Teacher Banned for Sexual Assault During School Trip

Kevin Davies, a former Midlands teacher, has been permanently banned from the profession following revelations of sexual assault during a school trip. The 60-year-old exploited his position of authority while working at Harry Carlton School in Leicestershire, engaging in sexual activity with a pupil under his care.

Davies, who taught at Harry Carlton School between 1993 and 2001 before moving to Concord College in Shrewsbury until 2020, admitted two counts of indecent assault against a girl under 16 in March 2022. The offenses occurred during his tenure at Harry Carlton, notably on a school trip, and involved sexual acts initiated by Davies with the pupil. It was also revealed that the sexual encounters continued until 2002.

At Nottingham Crown Court in November 2024, Davies was sentenced to 18 months in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for ten years. The court described his abuse of trust as an “extreme example” of misconduct, emphasizing his position of power.

A Teaching Regulation Agency panel confirmed that Davies' conduct severely breached professional standards. Despite the judge noting Davies was considered an excellent teacher prior to the offenses, the panel highlighted the gravity of his violations. They acknowledged his expressions of remorse but ruled that the risk of reoffending, while lower due to the time elapsed, could not be entirely discounted.

Consequently, Davies received an indefinite prohibition order preventing him from teaching in any educational or youth-related institution across England. This decision underscores the commitment to safeguarding children and maintaining the integrity of the teaching profession.
