Met Office Issues Storm Ingrid Warning: 23 Areas Urged to Prepare Emergency Kits

Storm Ingrid is forecasted to batter the UK with heavy rain and strong winds reaching up to 60mph, prompting the Met Office to issue yellow weather warnings for 23 regions in south-west England and Wales. This severe weather event raises the risk of flooding and disruption, potentially presenting a danger to life.

The Met Office has strongly advised residents in the affected areas to prepare emergency kits and take precautions. “Periods of heavy rain and strong winds are likely to cause flooding and travel disruption,” the national weather service stated. Residents should assess their flood risk and consider creating a flood plan alongside an emergency kit.

Essential items for the emergency kit include torches, batteries, mobile phone power packs, and other necessities to help manage potential power outages and emergencies. Early preparation can significantly ease the impact of the storm.

Neil Armstrong, the Met Office’s chief forecaster, explained: “Storm Ingrid, named by Portugal’s weather service, is a slow-moving low-pressure system bringing heavy rain and strong winds across south-west England. Areas could receive more than 20mm of rain on saturated ground, heightening the chances of flooding and other impacts. Coastal regions will also face large waves and powerful gusts.”

Residents in the following areas should remain vigilant and prepare accordingly:
