Met Office Issues 11-Hour Immediate Yellow Weather Warning for Fog Affecting 16 UK Areas

The Met Office has issued an urgent yellow weather warning for dense fog, impacting 16 areas across the UK on the night of Thursday, January 15. The warning comes into effect at 8pm and will remain active until 7am on Friday, January 16.

Visibility is expected to drop significantly across regions including parts of Wales, North West England, and the West Midlands. The forecaster warns that fog patches will thicken and become widespread during the evening, with visibility falling below 100 meters in some locations.

According to the Met Office forecast: “Fog patches will become more widespread and dense in places during Thursday evening with visibility falling below 100 m in places. Fog will thin and lift into low cloud late in the night or early on Friday morning.”

This reduced visibility may lead to delays or cancellations in public transport and flights, as well as slower travel on the roads. Motorists are advised to check current road conditions, adjust travel plans if necessary, and allow extra time for their journeys to avoid disruptions.

Following the foggy night, Friday will start with lingering low clouds and occasional showers, mainly feeding in from the west. However, brighter spells are expected to develop throughout the day, particularly in eastern areas, with temperatures reaching up to 8°C.

The weekend forecast predicts a mixture of sunny intervals and scattered showers, alongside patchy frost and fog forming during clear, cold nights. Weather conditions are set to become wetter and windier from the west as Monday approaches.
