Met Office Identifies 9 UK Counties Set to Sizzle in Mini-Heatwave

The Met Office has announced the arrival of the UK’s first mini-heatwave of the year, predicting temperatures to reach up to 26°C on Wednesday, 8 April. This warm spell promises to bring a notable lift in temperatures across several counties in England and Wales.

Forecasters expect highs in the low to mid-20s Celsius widely across England and Wales, with some sheltered areas in northwest Wales potentially reaching 24°C or even 25°C. Temperatures will be notably warmer than the usual early April average, which typically hovers in the mid-teens.

Weather conditions this afternoon will be sunny and warm for most, although coastal areas may experience cooler and windier conditions. The western regions, including western Scotland and western Northern Ireland, will see thickening cloud and some rain.

The Met Office has highlighted nine counties expected to feel the heatwave most intensely: Greater London, Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, Northumberland, and Yorkshire.

Following a warm Tuesday, Wednesday will see temperatures climb even higher in parts of England, Wales, and eastern Scotland, especially in southeast England where temperatures could top 26°C.

Met Office weather presenter Annie Shuttleworth also highlighted recent enhancements to the Met Office weather app, which now includes tide times and safety advice developed in partnership with the RNLI. This update aims to provide visitors with comprehensive beach safety and weather information in one convenient place.

Looking ahead to Friday and the weekend, the weather is expected to turn more unsettled, bringing blustery conditions with a mix of sunshine and showers. Temperatures will return closer to seasonal averages after the brief warmth.
