Met Office Forecasts Snowfall Across UK on Valentine’s Day Evening

This Valentine’s weekend, the UK is bracing for a snowy spell as an Arctic cold front pushes wintry showers across the country. According to the latest Met Office weather maps, snow is expected to start falling Saturday evening and continue into Sunday.

The first flakes are predicted around 6pm on Saturday, initially affecting Northern Ireland, Wales, and southern England. As the night progresses, the snow band will move northwards, spreading across Scotland and northern England.

By midnight, heavy snowfall is expected to cover much of Scotland, including major cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dumfries. At the same time, places such as Birmingham, Kendal, and Manchester will also see snow accumulating.

In the early morning hours of Sunday (around 3am), the snow will advance further, reaching York and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. London may experience snowfall between 6am and 9am as the system moves through.

The Met Office indicates the snowfall will taper off by midday Sunday, giving way to rain showers for some regions later in the day.

This fresh snowfall warning comes amidst ongoing yellow weather alerts for snow and ice across parts of Scotland and northern England, effective from Thursday through Friday afternoon. Areas including Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, York, Durham, Carlisle, and Newcastle fall within the alert zones.

Residents are advised to prepare for slippery roads and potential travel disruptions, as icy conditions and snow are likely to impact road surfaces and pedestrian safety.
