Met Office Forecasts Massive 860km Snow Band Across UK This Weekend

The UK is bracing for a vast 860km band of snow sweeping across the country this weekend, as detailed by the latest Met Office weather maps. This significant weather event follows a period of relentless rain, with no signs of sustained dry weather expected for at least the next seven to ten days.

As of Tuesday afternoon, February 10, the nation remains on high alert with 97 ‘act now’ flood warnings and 154 ‘flooding is possible’ alerts still active. The Met Office’s projections reveal that by 9am on Sunday, February 15, a broad front of snow will stretch from Brighton on the southern coast all the way to the Scottish village of Durness.

Earlier in the morning, at 6am, the snow band will be narrower, covering the Midlands northwards into Scotland. By midday Sunday, the snow is expected to retreat, giving way to rainfall and occasional dry spells.

Despite the extensive snow coverage, the Met Office has not issued any severe weather warnings for the weekend but advises the public to stay informed through regular updates for their local areas.

Looking ahead, the Met Office’s forecast from Thursday to Saturday calls for unsettled weather with rain showers, turning colder from Friday with snow showers especially in northern regions. Many parts of the UK will enjoy dry, cold, and sunny weather on Saturday.

Their long-range outlook from February 15 to 24 predicts that Atlantic low pressure systems will continue to influence the weather, bringing showers, heavy rain in western hills, occasional snow on northern high grounds, and possible strong coastal winds. Temperatures are expected to be near average, with a potential shift toward drier and more settled weather later in the period.

For the period between February 25 and March 11, the Met Office notes low confidence in the dominant weather pattern but suggests there could be a mix of unsettled wet spells and drier, colder settled conditions, with the latter trend slightly more likely.

Stay prepared and keep up with the latest forecasts as this dramatic weekend weather approaches.
