Met Office Confirms UK June Heatwave as Temperatures Set to Rise Above 30°C

Weather maps are lighting up as the UK braces for a significant rise in temperatures this June, with forecasts indicating another spell of warm weather on the horizon.

After a soggy beginning to the month, the mercury is expected to climb above 30°C, bringing a welcome dose of summer warmth. Forecasters anticipate the heat will begin to build over the upcoming weekend.

However, the Met Office cautions this heatwave won’t reach the extreme levels experienced in May, when temperatures soared to a record-breaking 35°C. Annie Shuttleworth, a meteorologist at the Met Office, explains: “While we expect a warm weekend, temperatures won’t match the May heatwave. Nonetheless, they will be above average and higher than recent days.”

Rising temperatures will also lead to increased UV and pollen levels, adding to the impact of warmer conditions. Shuttleworth adds, “This situation isn’t classified as a heatwave, but the majority of the UK will see above-average temperatures for mid-June.”

According to weather forecaster Netweather, some parts of the UK can expect highs of 29°C on Thursday, June 18, with certain areas potentially reaching 32°C by Monday, June 22.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for June 16 to June 25 highlights a changeable midweek period featuring rain outbreaks in the north and northwest, which may extend to southern and southeastern regions. “Some strong winds could accompany these showers, though temperatures will generally remain above average,” the forecast states.

By the following weekend, however, high pressure is expected to take hold, bringing dry, settled, and likely very warm conditions, particularly across southern areas of the UK.
