Met Office Announces Start Date for UK Heatwave with Temperatures Set to Soar

The Met Office has released an update on the upcoming UK heatwave, confirming that much warmer weather is expected to arrive by the weekend. Following a record-breaking May, June began on a cooler, wetter note, but that is set to change soon.

Meteorologist Dan Stroud highlighted that temperatures will rise significantly over the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday. “We’re expecting temperatures to climb well above average, especially across southern regions,” he explained. “There’s a strong chance temperatures will reach the high 20s Celsius, with some areas potentially breaking 30 degrees.”

Stroud noted that Sunday and Monday could see temperatures surpassing the 30-degree mark, signaling a possible return to heatwave conditions. “We’ll be monitoring closely, as the criteria for a heatwave could be met again,” he added.

The forecast points to high pressure building from the south by the end of the week, accompanied by clearing skies and warmer air moving in from continental Europe. Although Thursday is predicted to bring the wettest weather of the week with a band of rain sweeping across the UK, improvement is expected from Friday onward.

By Saturday, warmer and settled conditions are anticipated, with temperatures soaring to around 29°C or higher in some locations. This spike will usher in an extended period of above-average warmth, particularly across the southern parts of the UK. While high-pressure conditions and sunshine are likely to persist until Tuesday, the extreme heat may subside after the weekend.
