The Met Office has issued a stark weather forecast as the UK prepares for what could be the most intense heatwave of the summer. Following three previous heatwaves, temperatures are expected to soar even higher, potentially reaching a scorching peak by the end of July.
Forecasts predict that by July 27, temperatures will spike to 33°C, with a record-breaking high of 38°C expected on July 29. This would be the hottest temperature recorded in the UK so far this year.
WX Charts, utilizing the GFS weather model, depict a dramatic temperature surge across England, with deep reds, burgundy, and near-black colors highlighting the extreme heat enveloping regions including the West Midlands and Birmingham.

The Met Office’s outlook for July 22 to 31 indicates continued “above average” temperatures, while the BBC Weather team also anticipates a significant heatwave. BBC weather presenter Ben Rich commented, “The UK’s weather could become more changeable as summer progresses, with occasional spells of rain appearing in long-range forecasts. However, high chances remain for prolonged periods of above-average temperature in late July and August, with the possibility of more heatwaves.”
Supporting this view, the Met Office’s forecast from July 27 to August 2 suggests temperatures will stay near or above normal levels, with southern areas experiencing the warmest conditions and the potential for very warm weather extending into early August.
The latest State of the UK Climate report from the Met Office underlines that what was once considered extreme weather is increasingly becoming the norm. Since the 1980s, the UK’s average temperature has risen by approximately 0.25°C per decade, signaling a significant shift in climate patterns.
In the immediate short term, Monday is expected to be cloudier than previous days, with sunny spells developing in the afternoon. The north and northwest may experience more cloud cover and occasional light showers, according to the Met Office.
Tuesday will bring variable cloud amounts with some sunny intervals, feeling warm under the sunshine and with light winds.
Looking ahead to Wednesday through Friday, the forecast calls for settled weather, patchy clouds, and isolated showers mainly in northern areas. Temperatures are predicted to remain warm or very warm, ranging from the mid to high 20s Celsius.
