Every morning, three-year-old Cally Clarke eagerly bounds downstairs to care for the rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs at her home.
Together with her mother, Holly Ashmore, they have a busy schedule visiting and tending to cats and other small pets throughout Solihull.
After being made redundant from her role working with children with special educational needs, Holly was uncertain about her next steps.

Her partner Les encouraged her by saying, “You’ll think of something,” and when Holly suggested starting a professional pet sitting service, he was enthusiastic, transforming their back garden and creating suitable indoor enclosures for the animals.
Thus, Holly’s Pet Sitting Services was born.
“I love animals and Cally loves animals, so we decided to give it a go,” explained Holly.
“Cally helps by feeding them and handing me supplies for cleaning their enclosures.
“We offer pop-in visits to feed and play with pets in their own homes while owners are away.
“There’s a cat called Leo we visit regularly who runs up the garden whenever Cally calls his name.
“We’ve even cared for a gecko!”
The family owns a 14-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Sasha, along with their own rabbits and hamsters, all of which get on well with their visiting guests.
“Sasha is very gentle with the animals,” Holly said. “She sniffs them briefly and then moves on.
“I allow our rabbits to roam the downstairs of our house; they often rest in Sasha’s bed.”
Holly’s affection for small furry animals began in childhood.
“I’ve always had a fondness for hamsters and rabbits,” she shared.
While it’s challenging to avoid becoming attached to the animals they look after, especially for Cally, they find comfort knowing they help care for treasured pets.
“We often have repeat customers, which is lovely,” Holly added. “Much of our business comes through word of mouth, so it’s encouraging to know our work is appreciated.
“We’ve been running the service for two years now, and this summer has been nonstop.”
Holly’s Pet Sitting Service maintains an active Facebook page for those interested in learning more.
When asked about the best part of their pet sitting experience, Holly smiled, “The cuddles!”
“It’s rewarding for both me and Cally. She learns new things constantly.
“Seeing the animals happy and content, like when rabbits do their back-kicks and zoom around, makes us happy too.
“It feels great to know we are helping others while enjoying our time with the animals.”
