McDonald’s has ignited a wave of frustration among customers after removing one of its most cherished breakfast items — the iconic Bacon Roll. The fast-food giant announced the Breakfast Roll is “gone, but not forgotten,” leaving fans disappointed by the decision to revamp the breakfast menu.
The Bacon Roll was a simple yet satisfying option, featuring three rashers of crispy bacon nestled inside a soft white roll, complemented by either ketchup or brown sauce. Loyal customers expressed their dismay, taking to social media platforms like Twitter to voice their displeasure.
One user lamented, “@McDonalds why why why have you removed the bacon roll in the UK from breakfast. A plain double bacon McMuffin just doesn’t hit the spot. I don’t like cheese or egg or sauce or butter, it’s smaller than the roll and more expensive. Just lost a regular customer.”

Others echoed this sentiment, calling the removal “one of the biggest travesties of our times.” Many felt the Bacon Roll was the highlight of the breakfast menu, questioning why such a popular item was discontinued without prior notice.
“No way have Maccies actually got rid of the Bacon Roll meal from the menu and not said owt?!” one fan demanded. Another expressed, “The only thing I enjoy from the breakfast menu. Games gone.”
Comparisons were drawn to other breakfast options, with some insisting that no alternative could replace the simplicity and satisfaction of the Bacon Roll. “Anybody choosing to get a McDonald’s bacon roll over an actual one or a Greggs is mad,” one commenter stated.
The removal also added to frustrations over other recent menu changes. “What?!?!? First no bagels and now this?? McDonald’s will have nothing left for breakfast at this rate if they keep on going,” worried another customer.
Geographical convenience played a role in some customers’ breakfast choices too. One noted, “To be fair, the nearest McDonald’s to me is a 5 min drive, or I can go to Greggs which has no street parking/drive-through and takes 15 mins to get to. No brainer for my circumstances.”
Criticism extended beyond the menu adjustment to the quality of McDonald’s offerings. A dissatisfied patron said, “McDonald’s seem determined to ruin their own menu. Good luck with that. Their ‘food’ now looks like they make it blindfolded. I’m not paying for food that looks totally unappetising, is lukewarm, isn’t tasty, is terribly unhealthy, and is also expensive.”
As the Bacon Roll fades into McDonald’s history, loyal fans continue to hope for its return — or at least a breakfast option that can fill the sizable gap it leaves behind.
