The Masked Singer 2026 promises to deliver more unmaskings than ever before, according to panellist Jonathan Ross. The popular ITV singing competition, hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, returns in January with a fresh twist that will energize both the stage and viewers at home.
For the first time in the show’s history, the opening two episodes will feature live band performances. On Saturday, January 3, Goldfish and the No Trout band will take to the stage, followed by Emperor Penguin and the Antarctic Funkeys on Sunday, January 4. This exciting double episode weekend will culminate in four unmaskings — a series first.
Host Joel Dommett, 40, shared: “We’ve never started the show with a live band before. It brings incredible energy to the room, and the lead singer is someone we also have to guess. The entire first weekend is full of surprises and substantial reveals.”

Panellist Davina McCall praised the new series, saying: “It’s amazing — the pace is fast, the energy feels fresh, and there are new ideas that truly keep us on our toes!”
Jonathan Ross, 65, also highlighted the show’s heightened excitement: “If you love unmaskings, this series has more than ever. There’s so much happening that even we struggle to keep up with the guesses before the mask comes off. Home viewers are in for a real treat.”
Last year’s Masked Singer champion was Samantha Barks, a musical theatre star known for her role in Les Misérables, who performed as the Pufferfish. This year’s lineup includes intriguing characters like Moth, Can Of Worms, Red Panda, Conkers, Arctic Fox, Toastie, Teabag, and Gargoyle.
The Masked Singer premieres Saturday, January 3, and Sunday, January 4 at 6:30 pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player.
