Manhunt Underway for Prisoner Serving 23-Year Sentence After Escape from HMP Thorn Cross

A police manhunt is ongoing after Kieran Cameron, 43, escaped from HMP Thorn Cross on the evening of January 6. Cameron is serving a 23-year sentence for a brutal attempted murder committed in Dorset in 2016.

During the attack, Cameron and an accomplice, Michael O’Rourke, stabbed a 22-year-old man from Poole around ten times. The victim suffered severe wounds to the stomach, neck, and back of the head but survived the assault. The attack was reportedly planned as retaliation related to gang rivalries, with the intention to frame a different group for the crime.

At Portsmouth Crown Court, it was revealed that both perpetrators were under threat from rival gangs and targeted the victim, who was known to them. Detective Sergeant Jamie Halford of Bournemouth CID emphasized the gravity of the case at sentencing, condemning the violent knife crime and commending the swift actions of bystanders and medical staff who saved the victim’s life.

Following Cameron’s escape, Cheshire Police launched an urgent appeal for public assistance. Cameron is described as a white male, approximately 5 ft 6 in tall, with a medium build, substantially receding hairline, and a ginger and grey beard. He is believed to have connections in Liverpool, Manchester, and Dorset.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Henderson from Cheshire’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit urged the public not to approach Cameron if spotted. Instead, sightings should be reported immediately by calling 999. Information can also be provided via the non-emergency number 101 or through the Cheshire Police website, quoting incident number IML 2247029.

The authorities continue their efforts to locate Cameron and ensure public safety as the search intensifies.
