Man Sentenced to Six Years for Sexual Assault of Teenager in Telford Car Park

Lee Ward, also known as Lee Thomas, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in a Telford town centre car park.

The incident occurred on February 4, 2023, when Ward, aged 42 and with no fixed address, convinced the teenager to follow him into a stairwell within the car park. There, he produced a blanket and carried out the assault. Despite the victim pleading for him to stop, Ward continued until she managed to escape, leaving her visibly distressed. She later reported the crime to authorities.

Ward was arrested on February 20, 2023, while busking outside Asda in the town centre. He faced multiple charges, including four counts of sexual assault, assault by penetration, and attempting to cause a person to engage in sexual activity.

After a ten-day trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court, a jury found Ward guilty of all charges in October 2025. The sentencing took place on November 28 at Stafford Crown Court.

Detective Constable Jack Pedley described the case as harrowing and emphasized the danger Ward poses to the wider community, especially women and girls. He praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward and highlighted the importance of supporting victims and protecting vulnerable individuals.

Pedley also encouraged other victims of similar offenses to come forward, assuring them they will be heard, supported, and that justice will be pursued.
