An incident at Glamorous nightclub in Birmingham’s Gay Village led to serious injuries and has prompted a police request for an immediate review of the venue’s licence. The disturbance occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 16 August, at the nightclub formerly known as Glamorous Show Bar, located on Hurst Street.
West Midlands Police were called to the venue shortly after 5am following reports of serious disorder. At around 5:23am, an individual was racially abused by two people inside the club. Those responsible for the abuse were ejected by door staff, who were then themselves assaulted.
The situation escalated outside the venue where further assaults took place, including one man being knocked unconscious. At least two people suffered grievous bodily harm, and another sustained actual bodily harm during the incident.

Superintendent Karl Thomas commented, “At approximately 05:23 hours, as a result of a person racially abusing two others within the venue, those individuals were ejected by door staff who were subsequently assaulted. Disorder continued outside with additional assaults, including one male being knocked unconscious. Venue staff did not intervene or provide first aid to the unconscious individual.”
The venue is licensed to remain open until 6am. West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to the scene, treating a man with serious injuries who was taken to hospital.
Given the gravity of the events, West Midlands Police have applied to Birmingham’s licensing committee for a summary review of the nightclub’s premises licence, seeking its suspension and the removal of the designated premises supervisor. The hearing took place on Thursday, 20 August, before the council’s licensing sub-committee A. The session was conducted in private due to the ongoing criminal investigation, and no public decision has yet been released.
The licence holder for the venue is Matthew Eason, a Reform UK councillor representing the Beechdale, Leamore & Reedswood ward on Walsall Council. The designated premises supervisor is Pauline Winwood.
West Midlands Police continue to investigate the incident, appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them via 101, quoting crime number 20/364734/26. A police spokesman added that the man injured is in his 20s and that his head injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
This serious incident has sparked concerns regarding the promotion of licensing objectives at the venue, highlighting the challenges of maintaining safety and order at late-night establishments.
