Daniel Nash, 34, has been sentenced to nine years in prison, plus an additional five-year extension, after a vicious two-hour assault on his girlfriend in Alfreton, Derbyshire. The harrowing incident unfolded on February 13, when Nash subjected his partner to terrifying acts of violence, including pouring boiling water on her and attempting to sever her fingers.
The attack began following an argument at a friend’s home. The victim initially locked herself in a bathroom for safety, but Nash forcibly kicked the door down and repeatedly punched her in the face. During the brutal assault, Nash instructed his friend Thomas Osborne, who was later convicted as an accomplice, to fetch a knife and boil a kettle.
Holding the knife to her throat, Nash stabbed the woman in the leg and doused her with scalding water while she tried to shield herself with a coat. He struck her with bolt croppers, fracturing her ankle, and hit her with a dog lead. In a chilling attempt to cause further harm, Nash tried to sever the woman’s fingers with the knife. She bravely picked up an axe to defend herself, but Nash wrestled it away and persisted in his attack.

Fearing for her life, the victim eventually fled and hid behind a bin until a neighbor arrived and took her to the hospital. When Nash’s mother came to the scene after being alerted, he assaulted her as well by punching her and throwing a brick, causing her to fall over a wall.
Osborne, 32, was found guilty at Derby Crown Court for his role in facilitating the assault and failing to help the victims. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
Detective Constable Sarah Drabble, who led the investigation, described the assault as prolonged and brutal. She commended the courage of the victims for trusting the police and highlighted the serious impact such violence has on the community. She emphasized that domestic abuse will not be tolerated and encouraged anyone experiencing abuse to seek help.
This case not only underscores the devastating effects of domestic violence but also the vital role of bravery and justice in addressing such crimes.
