Man fined after using racial slur at police officers in Wolverhampton

Robert Quinn, aged 30, was fined following a court hearing where he admitted using racially aggravated language towards police officers during an incident in Wolverhampton. The event occurred on March 14 when officers were making an arrest. Quinn directed abusive words, including a racial slur, at the officers. At Dudley Magistrates' Court on September 24, he pleaded guilty to racially or religiously aggravated harassment causing alarm or distress through words or behaviour.

Prosecutor John Hopkins explained that Quinn became abusive during the arrest of another individual. Defence counsel Vaughn Whistance described Quinn’s comments as an expression of anger, emphasising that such language was unacceptable and crossing a clear line. He added that Quinn regretted his behaviour and that it was out of character for him.

Quinn, who receives Universal Credit, was fined £80 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs. Magistrate Berinder Singh Bassral remarked that the incident was an “expensive lesson” for Quinn and urged him to move forward without repeat offences.
