Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Stabbing Outside Alum Rock School

A man has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder following a tragic stabbing outside a school in Birmingham’s Alum Rock area.

Emergency services responded to reports of the incident on Bridge Road just after midday on March 3. Despite prompt medical assistance, 30-year-old Ali Alshmari was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman in her 50s sustained injuries to her hand during the attack but has since been discharged from hospital.

Police arrested 32-year-old Mahmood Ibrahim, who has no fixed address. He has been charged with the murder of Mr. Alshmari and the attempted murder of the woman. Ibrahim was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court the following morning.

Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell, leading the investigation, stated: “This is a significant development as we continue to investigate this incident. Our thoughts remain with Mr. Alshmari’s family during this difficult time.”

She added, “We appreciate the public’s response and want to thank those who have shared footage that has been crucial to our investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to come forward.”

In response to community concerns, West Midlands Police have increased patrols in the area and engaged with local residents to provide reassurance. The force emphasized the importance of cooperation and dialogue to maintain safety in the neighborhood.
