Major Police Breakthrough in Unexplained Death of Woman Found in Doorway

Police have made a significant breakthrough following the discovery of a woman found dead in a city centre doorway in Staffordshire.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was found in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, on the morning of September 1, 2024. Emergency services arrived around 4:15 a.m. but despite resuscitation efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence suggests she may have been there since the previous night.

Staffordshire Police initially described the death as unexplained but not suspicious and launched an appeal, sharing CCTV footage to assist with identifying people who may have relevant information.

Now, detectives have confirmed they have identified a man they wish to speak to in connection with the investigation. This development marks a crucial step forward in understanding the circumstances surrounding the woman’s tragic death.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “We have identified the man we wanted to speak to following the appeal.” At the time of the incident, they added, “We are appealing for anyone with information about the death of a woman in Hanley in the early hours of this morning to get in touch.”

The police continue to locate the woman’s next of kin, providing support through specially trained officers. While no arrests have been made, the investigation remains ongoing as detectives pursue all avenues to clarify the events leading to the woman’s unexplained passing.
