A significant fire that broke out on one of the hottest days of the year in Stourbridge has now entered its second day, with a major incident declared by emergency services. Dramatic images have emerged showing homes engulfed in flames, underscoring the extent of the devastation.
Residents in the affected area have been evacuated as a precaution, with a child among those treated for smoke inhalation. The West Midlands Fire Service continues to manage the situation, with firefighters operating under challenging conditions.
Simon Tuhill, Chief Fire Officer for West Midlands Fire Service, described the incident as “one of the most significant” the service has encountered in his 28-year career. He acknowledged the severe impact on the local community, stating, “The devastation is extensive, and we understand the effect this has on residents. We are committed to doing everything possible to minimise the disruption and to assist people in returning to their homes as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Chief Fire Officer Tuhill also warned that the emergency response is expected to continue for several days. As such, residents are advised to stay clear of the area during this time to ensure their safety and to allow emergency services to work effectively.
This remains a developing situation, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.
