Madeira: Europe’s Tropical Escape with £35 Flights from Birmingham in October

As we transition from summer into autumn, many believe the opportunity for warm, sunny holidays close to home fades away. However, several European destinations continue to offer delightful sunshine and temperatures well into October - and Madeira stands out among them.

Often dubbed ‘Europe’s answer to Hawaii’, Madeira is a sun-soaked island less than a four-hour flight from Birmingham. In October, it enjoys daytime temperatures around a pleasant 25°C, cooling to about 17°C in the evenings - ideal for outdoor activities and exploration.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the island’s lush green forests and extensive hiking trails, or relax on pristine beaches with turquoise waters. Though slightly cooler in autumn, the sea remains inviting for those willing to brave a swim. Arriving earlier in the month is advisable since October can occasionally bring rainfall towards its end.

What’s more, visiting Madeira need not be expensive. According to Skyscanner, return flights from Birmingham can be found for as low as £35 each way in October. Research suggests the best deals are available when booking approximately 40 days before departure.

Madeira offers a wide array of attractions. Seixal Beach, located on the island’s northern shore opposite the capital Funchal, was recently named among the world’s 50 best beaches. Known for its swim-friendly waters, beach bar, and stunning scenery, it’s a favourite among locals and tourists alike.

Funchal itself provides an appealing city break with beautiful gardens, a charming Old Town filled with independent shops and eateries, and iconic experiences such as the famous cable car offering panoramic views of the island.

For the adventurous, Madeira boasts countless hiking trails traversing varied landscapes - from mountains and dense forests to waterfalls - that resemble scenes from a storybook.

Travel companies including Jet2holidays, TUI, and British Airways offer package holidays with direct flights from Birmingham, making it easy to plan a trip to this captivating island paradise.
