Lozells and East Handsworth named most dangerous area in Birmingham

Analysis of recent police statistics reveals Lozells and East Handsworth as the most dangerous policing area in Birmingham.

In the 12 months leading up to July, West Midlands Police recorded 2,420 serious violent and sexual offences in this north west part of the city. These crimes cover a range from murders, stabbings and robberies to assaults, domestic abuse and sexual attacks.

This equates to an average of six such offences per day within the area, which has long been associated with violent crime and gang-related conflicts.

Recent incidents include the stabbing of two individuals in Lozells just last month. Among the most harrowing cases was the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Yassin Alama on Hutton Road, Handsworth, involving a “zombie knife” during what has been described as an ongoing postcode-related feud.

Nearby areas also feature prominently in the city’s crime statistics. Aston recorded a close figure of 2,381 serious violent and sexual offences and shares a reputation for violence and interlinked gang disputes with Lozells and East Handsworth.

South Yardley reported over 2,000 such offences, followed closely by Stockland Green. Additional areas noted for high crime rates include Acocks Green and Bordesley Green.

These figures highlight ongoing challenges for law enforcement and community safety across several parts of Birmingham.
