Lidl Announces Exciting New Birmingham Store Opening Soon

Lidl is set to open two new stores in the Midlands within weeks, delivering a significant boost to local communities with up to 640 new jobs created. One of the new stores will be at Kingstanding Circle in Birmingham, on the site of the former Kingstanding Shopping Centre, and the other in Burntwood near Lichfield. These openings are part of Lidl’s ambitious plan to launch 19 new stores across the UK in the next eight weeks.

Last year, Lidl celebrated a major milestone by opening its 1,000th store in the UK and aims to add another 40 new locations by February 28 this year. Alongside its expansion, the retailer is investing £43 million to upgrade over 70 existing stores nationwide, introducing improvements like new tills, larger freezers to increase product range, and advanced energy-saving technologies. These include chillers using natural refrigerants and smart lighting systems designed to reduce electricity consumption.

Richard Taylor, Lidl’s Chief Real Estate Officer for UK operations, commented: “We’re starting the new year with a major investment that underlines our commitment to offering customers the best shopping experience and positively impacting the communities we serve. Our goal is to attract even more shoppers and grow our market share.”

Currently ranked as the sixth-largest grocery chain in the UK, Lidl has seen the biggest recent market share growth in the sector. Industry experts predict the supermarket could surpass Morrisons, now in fifth place, if its momentum continues. The recent Christmas period provided a strong performance for Lidl, with sales jumping 10%, generating over £1.1 billion in turnover in the four weeks leading up to Christmas Eve.

Upcoming Lidl store openings in the next eight weeks include locations across the UK such as Basildon, Brough, Calne, Chester, Dereham, Havant, Hereford, Horley, Hucknall, Stamford Hill, Walworth Road, Reading, Royal Wootton Bassett, Salisbury, Sandford, Sutton high street, and Tring.
