Jez Bridges, a 59-year-old father of four from Kinver, South Staffordshire, has been given less than two years to live following the discovery of a rare and aggressive cancer during a routine eye examination at Specsavers in Stourbridge. What began as the detection of a tiny speck in his eye was later diagnosed as Uveal (Ocular) Melanoma, a highly uncommon form of cancer.
Following the initial diagnosis, Jez underwent Proton Radiotherapy at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool, resulting in the loss of sight in his affected eye. Although the treatment initially controlled the cancer, heartbreaking news arrived in March when tests revealed that the cancer had spread to his liver, making the disease terminal.
The impact on Jez’s family—his wife, two daughters, and two sons—has been profound. His sister, Justine Owens, shared with BirminghamLive: “Jez’s diagnosis has changed the lives of his entire family. Overnight, our future went from being full of plans, celebrations, and family milestones to living with uncertainty and fear.” She emphasized the deep emotional toll, noting their grief over the possibility of missing future birthdays, weddings, and the chance for Jez to meet his future grandchildren.

In a bid to extend Jez’s life, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise £200,000 for a private treatment called Chemosaturation, which is not currently funded by the NHS. Each Chemosaturation session costs approximately £40,000, and Jez is expected to require around five sessions. As of June 3, more than £44,000 has been generously donated to support his fight.
Justine expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support: “Every donation, no matter the size, means so much more than just financial support. It reminds us that we are not facing this battle alone. The kindness, generosity, and belief in helping Jez access treatment are giving our family strength during the most difficult time of our lives.”
The family’s courage and the community’s compassion fuel their hope for more precious time together with Jez during this challenging journey.
