Kieran Dowell, who impressed during a loan stint at Birmingham City last season, is on the verge of returning to the Championship with Hull City.
The 28-year-old midfielder shone for Birmingham, netting five goals and providing five assists across 23 appearances. However, his return to Rangers this summer has been far less fruitful. After initially featuring under manager Russell Martin, Dowell has since fallen out of the first-team picture and has struggled to gain playing time under new boss Danny Röhl.
Dowell’s last appearance for Rangers came nearly five months ago in a 4-2 win over Alloa, and with just six months remaining on his contract, the midfielder appears ready to seek a fresh start back in England.

Hull City, currently sitting seventh in the Championship, are keen on securing Dowell’s signature. Manager Sergej Jakirović has acknowledged that Dowell is “one of the options” as the club aims to strengthen their squad. However, due to ongoing transfer restrictions, Hull must first offload players before bringing new signings in.
Dowell’s familiarity with English football and previous success in the Championship—including promotions with Sheffield United and Norwich City—make him a valuable potential addition for Hull as he looks to reignite his career.
