Kai Wagner Facing Weeks Out as Chris Davies Updates on Doyle and Priske Absences

Birmingham City has been dealt a setback with left-back Kai Wagner set to miss several weeks due to a recurring shoulder injury. Wagner, who had been a consistent presence since joining from Philadelphia Union in January, missed the recent 1-0 win against Queens Park Rangers, watching from the stands while Ethan Laird filled in.

Laird started his first match in six months and played 64 minutes before Jonathan Panzo took over the left-back position to close the game. Wagner’s injury dates back to a shoulder knock suffered in the defeat to Millwall two weeks ago, compounded by a collision with Lyndon Dykes during the loss to Charlton. Despite discomfort, Wagner completed that match but has now been ruled out for an extended period, likely until after the March international break.

Manager Chris Davies expressed his disappointment after the QPR victory: “Kai got a knock and it looks like it’s going to rule him out for a few weeks which is disappointing.”

In addition to Wagner’s injury, midfielder Tommy Doyle missed his second consecutive game, while Danish striker August Priske was also absent. Davies provided updates on their status: “Priske has been unwell, so not available, and Doyle is still not quite right after his unavailability through illness. We hope those two turn a corner but Kai will be a few weeks.”

Birmingham City will now look to manage these absences as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, aiming to maintain their recent positive momentum.
