John McGinn Set to Return as Aston Villa Receive Vital Injury Boost

Aston Villa captain John McGinn has taken a significant step towards returning from injury by resuming full training at the club’s Bodymoor Heath facility. The Scotland international has been sidelined for the past ten matches after sustaining a knee injury during the Premier League clash with Everton in January.

McGinn’s injury followed closely on the heels of Boubacar Kamara’s season-ending knee injury, which occurred during Villa’s FA Cup third-round match against Tottenham Hotspur. Not long after, Youri Tielemans also suffered a knee issue during an away game at Newcastle, casting further doubt over Villa’s midfield options.

Tielemans is expected to recover and return after the March international break, while McGinn’s progress will be closely monitored. If fully fit, McGinn could join his teammates for their Europa League last 16 first-leg fixture against Lille later this week.

Following the Lille match, Villa face a challenging Premier League fixture at Old Trafford against Manchester United, with McGinn potentially making his long-awaited home return to Villa Park the following week. After hosting West Ham, the team will enter the March international break.

McGinn’s comeback is a critical boost for Unai Emery, who has missed his captain’s leadership and influence over the past two months. Aston Villa have struggled recently, recording just one win in their last seven games across all competitions and only two wins in their last eight home matches. His return could help stabilize the squad and improve Villa’s fortunes in the crucial weeks ahead.
