Jhon Duran, the Fenerbahce striker, has been handed a two-match ban in the Europa League by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Board. The suspension means Duran will miss Fenerbahce’s upcoming European fixtures, including the highly anticipated clash against his former club Aston Villa on January 22.
The ban stems from an incident two weeks ago when Duran was sent off for headbutting Ferencvaros defender Toon Raemaekers late in the game. The altercation, which occurred just yards from the referee, resulted in a straight red card for violent conduct. Prior to this, Duran had been one booking away from a one-match suspension, but the severity of the incident led to an extended two-game ban following UEFA’s review.
Duran, who transferred from Aston Villa to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in January for £65 million, joined Fenerbahce on loan in the summer and has since made 13 appearances, scoring three goals across all competitions.
