JFK’s Granddaughter Tatiana Schlossberg Dies at 35, Months After Birth of Second Child

Tatiana Schlossberg, granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy, has died at the age of 35, her family has confirmed. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May last year, shortly after the birth of her second child, Tatiana faced her illness with remarkable courage.

Following routine blood tests postpartum, Tatiana was informed of her diagnosis, a moment she described as surreal. “I did not — could not — believe that they were talking about me,” she revealed. Despite being healthy just days before, having swum a mile while nine months pregnant, Tatiana soon embarked on intensive chemotherapy and preparation for a bone marrow transplant.

Her family rallied around her during the grueling treatment. Her sister Rose was a stem cell donor match and provided the first transfusion, while her brother Jack, a half-match, persistently inquired about potential options, embodying the family’s support and hope.

In a heartfelt op-ed, Tatiana shared her fears and reflections. She spoke honestly about the heartbreaking reality that her children, Edwin and Josephine, might scarcely remember her. “My son might have a few memories, but he’ll probably start confusing them with pictures he sees or stories he hears,” she wrote. Tatiana also expressed sorrow over what she saw as another tragedy befalling her storied family, following the assassination of her grandfather, President Kennedy, and the loss of her uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr.

Throughout her illness, Tatiana remained focused on her family. Her husband, George Moran, whom she married in 2017, balanced supporting Tatiana and caring for their children. George would put the children to bed before returning to the hospital to bring meals to his wife, a testament to the strength and love holding their family together.

Tatiana also commented on the political controversies involving her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr., criticizing his appointment as Health and Human Services Secretary despite lacking medical or governmental experience. She expressed concern over significant funding cuts to crucial medical research during his tenure.

The JFK Library Foundation announced Tatiana’s passing with a message honoring her memory and the profound loss felt by her family, including her parents, Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, and her siblings Rose and Jack.

Tatiana’s life was marked by resilience, dedication to family, and an unwavering spirit, qualities she embodied even in the face of a devastating diagnosis. Her legacy remains in the hearts of those she loved and inspired.
