Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, has passed away at the age of 35. Her death comes just weeks after she publicly disclosed her diagnosis with acute myeloid leukemia, a form of blood cancer, in May 2024.
Doctors discovered Tatiana’s illness during routine blood tests following the birth of her second child. The heartbreaking news was shared by the JFK Library Foundation on social media, with the family expressing their sorrow: “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.”
Tatiana had described her diagnosis with disbelief, saying, “I did not – could not – believe that they were talking about me.” Prior to her diagnosis, she shared how she felt healthy and active, noting, “I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t sick. I didn’t feel sick. I was actually one of the healthiest people I knew.”

Her treatment involved chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Throughout her difficult journey, Tatiana was supported by her family, including her parents, sister Rose, and brother Jack. Rose was a compatible donor who provided stem cells for Tatiana’s initial transplant. Jack, though a half-match, persistently inquired about the potential of a half-match transplant, demonstrating the family’s unwavering commitment to her recovery.
Only weeks ago, Kerry Kennedy, Tatiana’s cousin and John F. Kennedy’s niece, paid tribute to her bravery, stating, “She was so incredibly brave to express herself, and right now we’re all holding her in our hearts, and holding Caroline in our hearts.”
Tatiana’s mother, Caroline Kennedy, experienced profound family tragedy from a young age. She was just days shy of her sixth birthday when her father, President JFK, was assassinated in Texas. Decades later, her only surviving sibling, John F. Kennedy Jr., died in a plane crash.
The loss of Tatiana Schlossberg leaves a profound impact on the Kennedy family and all who admired her courage and spirit.
