Jet2 Warns of Flight Disruptions at Birmingham Airport Affecting Madeira Travel

Jet2 has announced potential flight disruptions for passengers traveling from Birmingham Airport to Madeira’s Funchal Airport due to severe weather conditions. The airline emphasized that adverse weather is impacting operations, leading to cancellations and delays.

In a statement released on Sunday, April 12, Jet2’s UK Based Operations Team confirmed they are working diligently to minimize disruption. Passengers currently delayed in Madeira awaiting updated flight information are advised to check SMS and email communications for the latest details, including new flight times and check-in instructions.

Flight LS1226, scheduled to depart Birmingham, has been rescheduled to 20:35 as part of these adjustments.

Local correspondent Tobi Hughes of Madeira Island News reported that while some flights have recently landed, there have been significant cancellations—40 flights canceled between arrivals and departures. Until around 3:30 pm, no aircraft had landed earlier in the day. The strong winds affecting the region are expected to persist through today and tomorrow, with slight improvement forecast for Saturday, meaning delays and diversions could continue.

Further complicating the situation, strong winds on the morning of Thursday, April 9, prevented any landings at Madeira Airport, according to the local airport operator ANA. While two flights landed just after midnight, no planes touched down between 2:02 am and 10:45 am on that day.

Jet2 reassures passengers that safety remains the highest priority and apologizes for any inconvenience caused during this challenging period.
