Jet2, EasyJet, Ryanair, and TUI Assure Summer Holiday Fuel Stability Amid Supply Concerns

As holidaymakers prepare for trips in June, July, and August, major European airlines—including EasyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, and TUI—have reassured passengers that jet fuel supplies remain secure despite concerns raised by the International Energy Agency (IEA). Last month, the IEA warned that Europe could face a jet fuel shortage within six weeks if key supply routes remain closed. However, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) emphasizes that there is currently no need for travelers to alter their summer plans.

Goldman Sachs has identified the UK as the country most vulnerable to jet fuel shortages resulting from tensions in Iran. In response, the UK government has urged its four remaining jet fuel refineries—ExxonMobil’s Fawley in Hampshire, Phillips 66’s Humber in Lincolnshire, Valero’s Pembroke refinery in Wales, and Essar’s Stanlow in Cheshire—to maximize fuel production.

EasyJet reports no disruption to its fuel supply. CEO Kenton Jarvis stated, “We want our customers to book with confidence this summer. We are operating normally without cancellations and look forward to taking millions on their well-deserved holidays.” EasyJet has introduced a ‘Book with Confidence Promise’ ensuring no additional charges post-booking, including no fuel surcharges, while offering flexible options for package holiday customers.

Ryanair’s CEO, Michael O’Leary, mentioned the risk of fuel shortages is diminishing, with suppliers indicating no expected disruptions until at least the end of June. He also expects that Ryanair’s strong fuel hedging strategy will allow the airline to maintain lower fares compared to competitors.

TUI’s Managing Director, Neil Swanson, assured travelers that the May half-term holiday flights will operate as planned with no cancellations due to fuel shortages. He emphasized TUI’s stable pricing strategy, affirming that prices seen at booking remain final without any fuel surcharges. All TUI holidays are also protected by ABTA and ATOL, offering extra security to travelers.

Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy echoed these sentiments, promising no surcharges on confirmed flights or holidays despite rising costs like jet fuel. He highlighted Jet2’s commitment to consumer protection and customer care, encouraging travelers to book with confidence for the upcoming busy summer season.

Together, these assurances from airlines and government bodies aim to ease traveler concerns and confirm that holiday plans can proceed smoothly this summer, despite geopolitical tensions impacting fuel markets.
