The Bottles of Sack, a well-frequented pub in Sutton Coldfield town centre, is currently closed for a week due to essential maintenance work. The closure began on Monday, 28 September, with the venue scheduled to reopen at 8am on Monday, 5 October.
Patrons arriving at the pub on Monday night found it in darkness and the entrance pathway cordoned off. Notices on the door informed customers of the temporary closure and directed them to nearby JD Wetherspoon pubs, including The Bishop Vesey in Boldmere, The Mare Pool in Mere Green, and The Charlie Hall in Erdington.
The maintenance involves significant repairs to the building’s roof, including replacing the conservatory roof, as well as installing new air conditioning and heating systems throughout the premises. Additionally, the kitchen is undergoing an upgrade alongside improvements to kitchen equipment and the addition of a new bottle store.

While the pub itself is set to reopen on 5 October, the kitchen facilities will remain closed until Saturday, 17 October, meaning diners should expect a disruption to food services for a longer period.
A spokesperson for JD Wetherspoon commented: “We are undertaking important repairs and upgrades, including the roof and conservatory roof replacement, installation of new air conditioning and heating in both the customer areas and kitchen, as well as updating kitchen equipment and installing a new bottle store. This work requires the pub to be closed from 28 September to 5 October, with the kitchen remaining closed until 17 October to complete the upgrade.”
