Jay Stansfield Clarifies His Commitment to Birmingham City Amid Transfer Speculation

Jay Stansfield has firmly addressed the ongoing speculation regarding his potential departure from Birmingham City, affirming his happiness and commitment to the club. Despite reports linking him with a move to newly promoted Coventry City, the talented forward reiterated his dedication to the Blues.

During an event hosted by the Birmingham City Foundation to launch the club’s new Powerchair team-a project funded in part by players donating a percentage of their win bonuses-Stansfield highlighted his passion not only for football but also for community engagement. The 23-year-old has been heavily involved in the club’s community initiatives since first joining on loan from Fulham in 2023 and subsequently signing permanently.

Since becoming a permanent fixture at St Andrew’s, Stansfield has amassed an impressive record, scoring 47 goals across 138 appearances and finishing as top or joint top scorer for the club in each of the last three seasons.

Reflecting on his affinity for Birmingham City, Stansfield explained, “Walking in the city, walking to a game, being at the stadium is really special still, and one of my main reasons for coming to this club was because I fell in love with it during my loan. My family has settled here now, and I’m really happy here.”

He emphasised his focus remains firmly on contributing both on the pitch and through the club’s wider initiatives: “Helping the club off the pitch as well is just as important to me. I make my feelings about Birmingham very clear and don’t pay attention to transfer rumours. To me, I’m a Birmingham City player and this is my focus for the season.”

Stansfield also reflected on his career progression, acknowledging that despite having played 187 senior games, he views himself as still developing. “I see myself as young but experienced; this is my fifth year in league football. Gaining first-team experience was crucial, which is why I went on loan to Exeter and then Birmingham. The pathway at Fulham wasn’t as clear as I wanted it to be, so moving here has allowed me to achieve my goal of regular first-team football. I know I’ve got a lot more to improve on and many years ahead to reach my prime.”

At the Foundation event, Stansfield appeared at ease interacting with the Powerchair players alongside teammate Carlos Vicente and former Blues stars Darren Carter and Clinton Morrison. On the experience, he commented, “It’s been fantastic to come down, meet the lads and try out the powerchairs ourselves. The smiles on their faces say it all-these players are incredible, and it’s been a privilege to learn from them and support this initiative.”
