Birmingham City is preparing for a decisive January transfer window as they continue their strong run in the Championship. With four wins from their last six league matches, the Blues have climbed to seventh place and are keen to strengthen their squad to sustain their promotion challenge.
Manager Chris Davies recognizes the importance of reinforcing the attacking lineup. Currently, only one striker, Jay Stansfield, has consistently delivered, contributing to 12 goals across all competitions. Marvin Ducksch has recently started finding the net, but Kyogo Furuhashi remains without a Championship goal and appears to have fallen down the pecking order. Meanwhile, Lyndon Dykes has primarily served as an impact substitute rather than a regular starter.
The likely scenario for January involves Dykes potentially moving on to make room for a new forward addition. The 30-year-old was close to transferring to Hibernian at the end of the summer window. With Scotland now qualified for the World Cup, Dykes faces a decision about his playing time to secure his place in the national squad.

On the Keep Right On Podcast, Alex Dicken suggested that Dykes could be the “domino” whose departure triggers fresh reinforcements in attack. He said: “Based on the summer transfer window and Dykes' eagerness to move then, that seems the obvious option. Scotland’s World Cup qualification makes it an important consideration, though I’m not sure it will alter things dramatically.
“He will be part of the Scotland squad, but he needs regular playing time to be in top form for the tournament and compete for the starting striker position against Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland.
“I like having Dykes as an option for Blues. He’s performed well this season and scored two crucial goals. I’d be quite happy if he stayed, but the January window is key for forward reinforcements.”
