Jail Sentence for Man Who Assaulted Ex and Stole Her Car Near Lichfield

Sam Newbrook, 25, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, has been sentenced to four years and two months in prison after assaulting his ex-girlfriend and stealing her car near Lichfield.

In September of last year, Newbrook confronted his ex-partner at a pub, striking her on the head with his palm. After she left the pub, he followed her and she agreed to drive him home. During the journey on Sycamore Road in Burntwood, Newbrook became agitated, prompting the victim to stop the car.

Once outside the vehicle, Newbrook forcefully pulled his ex-girlfriend to the ground, seized her car keys, and drove off in her vehicle. Police later spotted Newbrook driving near the Bowling Green roundabout in Lichfield. When officers attempted to stop him, he fled and eventually abandoned the car in Burntwood.

Authorities quickly located Newbrook at the victim’s residence and charged him with multiple offences including robbery, assault by beating, harassment without violence, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and driving while disqualified. Newbrook admitted to all charges.

Stafford Crown Court handed down the prison sentence on June 9. Additionally, Newbrook was issued a seven-year restraining order preventing any contact with his ex-partner.

Detective Constable Elliott Domeney from Staffordshire Police condemned Newbrook’s actions as “utterly deplorable” and emphasized their commitment to supporting domestic abuse survivors and prosecuting offenders.
