Jaguar Land Rover Worker Dies of Bowel Cancer After Initial Misdiagnosis with IBS

Liam Kerry, a 37-year-old model maker at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), tragically passed away from bowel cancer after doctors initially misdiagnosed his symptoms as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Liam had long experienced dietary and digestive discomfort and sought medical help. However, his symptoms were first attributed to IBS, and he was advised to modify his diet. It was not until 2022 that further testing revealed a golf ball-sized tumor in his colon.

Although surgery was performed to remove the tumor, doctors later found that some cancerous tissue had been left behind and had spread throughout Liam’s body. He underwent chemotherapy and briefly went into remission before the cancer returned aggressively.

By April 2025, Liam informed his childhood friend Shane Grant that his condition was terminal. He passed away on January 11, 2026.

Despite his diagnosis, Liam remained determined to bring hope to others facing similar battles. He wrote 99 imaginative and humorous 100-word stories during his treatment, compiling them into a book titled “Flush Fiction: 100 One Hundred Word Stories.” Shane contributed the final story as a tribute, completing the collection. Proceeds from the book support Bowel Cancer UK.

Shane recalled Liam’s perseverance and positivity throughout the ordeal: “Even facing terminal cancer, he focused on making memories and uplifting those around him. His creativity and resilience were inspiring.”

Liam, who contributed to cars featured in James Bond films, channeled his challenges into creativity. “He wanted to provide lighthearted distraction for people spending time in the bathroom undergoing treatment,” Shane said.

“Flush Fiction” stands as a testament to Liam’s spirit, blending humor and imagination while raising awareness about bowel cancer and the importance of thorough medical investigation.
