A tragic car crash has claimed the life of Lee Bowden, a devoted father and regional coordinator for the AA, as he was returning home from a night out with friends. The 27-year-old Wolverhampton man died instantly after his grey Mercedes struck a central reservation kerb and then a tree on Ridgacre Road, Quinton, shortly after midnight on Saturday, March 21.
The inquest disclosed that Lee was driving with his girlfriend at the time of the accident. West Midlands Police confirmed that he was both intoxicated and speeding when the collision occurred. Assistant Coroner Ian Dreelan outlined that the vehicle skidded sideways after hitting the kerb on a left-hand bend where Stoney Lane becomes Ridgacre Road, causing it to crash into a substantial tree.
Lee’s death was attributed to multiple injuries sustained in the road traffic collision, with alcohol intoxication noted on his death certificate. He was declared dead at the scene at 1:02 a.m.
