Inside the Planned Retribution Shooting of a Father on His School Run

A chilling premeditated attack saw a father gunned down outside his home as he returned from the school run, culminating in five men receiving a combined sentence exceeding 65 years in prison.

The brutal shooting took place in broad daylight on Charles Foster Street, Darlaston, when Nadeem Khan pulled into his driveway around 9am. Unbeknownst to him, a masked gunman was moments away, waiting to carry out a violent act of retribution.

Before the shooting, the gang from Birmingham conducted a detailed reconnaissance and obtained a double-barrelled shotgun at least 12 days prior. On the day of the attack, CCTV captured a Toyota C-HR pulling up outside Mr Khan’s property. After reversing slightly and bumping a nearby car, a rear window rolled down, and the gunman fired two shots at Mr Khan.

Despite calling for help—shouting “phone the police, I’ve been shot” and “I’m dead”—the victim was pursued as the gunman swiftly reloaded and fired a third shot, then a fourth through the car, before fleeing the scene.

Wolverhampton Crown Court revealed that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between rival factions, though no clear motive has been established. On January 12, five men admitted conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life. They were sentenced accordingly.

Judge Michael Chambers KC condemned the defendants for their blatant disregard for public safety. He emphasized the callous timing of the attack, deliberately targeting Mr Khan when he was returning with his children from the school run.

“This was a planned, targeted shooting in a public place in broad daylight with no regard for the local community,” the judge remarked. Though none were the actual shooter, all five were held equally responsible for the violence.

The gunfire instilled fear in the local community; one nearby school cancelled a church trip, keeping children indoors for safety. Several residents provided statements describing their fear and efforts to assist Mr Khan immediately after the shooting.

Mr Khan suffered serious and lasting injuries that have severely impacted his daily life. Detective Inspector Francis Nock of West Midlands Police praised the meticulous police work that led to the arrests, stressing that such violent acts involving weapons will not be tolerated.

“This attack was premeditated, with a clear intention to cause serious harm," DI Nock stated. “Through extensive CCTV investigation, we uncovered the calculated planning behind this crime.”

The sentences send a powerful message condemning violence and reinforcing community safety.
