As the trend of ‘fat jabs’ and surgical solutions gains popularity among many Brits seeking weight loss, millions continue to pursue healthier lives through natural methods. By embracing nutritious diets, regular exercise, and strong support networks, four local individuals have collectively shed an incredible 37 stone and transformed their lives without resorting to injections or surgery.
Their journeys were far from easy. Each faced personal struggles and setbacks along the way, but overcoming these challenges has become a powerful part of their stories—stories they share to inspire others considering a healthier lifestyle.
Suhayb Al-jumaili from Small Heath weighed a staggering 28 stone at just 18 years old. Living alone in the UK since age 16, he often turned to comfort eating, ordering takeaways and falling into unhealthy habits. Now, at 26, Suhayb has lost an impressive 14 stone through dedication to diet and fitness—without any medical interventions.

“There were days I was tempted to take the easy route with injections,” Suhayb shared with BirminghamLive. “But it comes down to what story you want to tell—one of struggle and triumph, or one of giving up. If I can do it, anyone can.”
Facing financial constraints, Suhayb couldn’t afford a personal trainer at first. But the encouragement and guidance from JR Extreme Fitness helped him overcome obstacles and maintain motivation. “My family was abroad, and I felt alone, but their support changed everything,” he said. Today, Suhayb enjoys a healthier mind and body, grateful for the journey he embarked on.
In contrast to the rising numbers—two million Brits trying weight loss injections in 2025 and concerns about lifelong dependency—Michelle Stokes of Stourport-on-Severn took a different path. Once a size 30 and nearly 24 stone, Michelle opted for Slimming World’s natural approach after a humbling incident stranded her on a theme park ride. Since 2019, she has dropped over 12 stone, now fitting comfortably into size 12 and leading an active lifestyle that includes swimming and running.
“Balancing work, four children, and weight struggles wasn’t easy,” Michelle admitted. “I’d binge eat and hide from photos. Slimming World not only gave me tools but also confidence and motivation. Now, I’m a role model for my kids and have truly reclaimed my life.”
Carla Smith, a 42-year-old mother of three from Telford, found inspiration to lose weight after struggling with the 1.5km school run. She has since lost five stone, joined the Telford Harriers Running Club, completed a half marathon, and gained energy she never thought possible.
“My stamina has improved immensely,” Carla said. “I used to rely on my husband to play with my son, but now I’m active and engaged. While some use jabs or surgery, I prefer the natural path. Our Slimming World group is a great support system, sharing tips and encouragement.”
Jemma Jones, a 38-year-old Stafford mum of four, faced health challenges including sleep apnea, which had her using an oxygen mask at night. Through Slimming World’s program and learning new cooking methods, she lost six stone and says goodbye to her oxygen mask as her health improved dramatically.
“I chose to do it the right way,” Jemma emphasized. “It’s not the easy option, but neither are jabs. With support and the right mindset, anyone can succeed. I hope sharing my story helps others believe in themselves and try.”
These stories highlight the power of perseverance, support, and natural lifestyle changes. While weight loss injections may seem like a quick fix, the transformative journeys of these local people prove that lasting change is possible without shortcuts.
