A family from Birmingham has shared an uplifting update after a fire devastated their home.
Gzala Saddique, a mother of four, lost everything when an intense fire swept through their residence in Ward End, where they had lived for 23 years. The blaze rapidly spread, engulfing her car and house in flames, and tragically, both of the family’s cats died as a result.
The fire, believed to have been started by a nearby wildfire, consumed the property within minutes on Monday, 10 August. Ms Saddique described her panic as she woke her children to escape, although sadly, the cries caused the cats to flee further inside where they were overcome by smoke and flames. One of the cats died at the scene, and the other had to be put down by a vet.

Neighbours and members of the local community quickly rallied to support the Saddique family, providing food, drinks, and donations to assist in rebuilding their lives. A GoFundMe campaign, launched by Ms Saddique’s niece, aimed to raise £10,000 and has now surpassed £6,000, marking an ‘incredible milestone’ for the family.
In a statement, the family expressed their heartfelt thanks: “What an incredible milestone. Thank you to everyone who has stood behind the family and helped carry them through this heart-breaking time.
“Your kindness has been truly overwhelming, and we’re so grateful for every person who has contributed in any way.
“We are now 60 per cent of the way there, thank you for helping us get this far.
“May your kindness return to you in abundance, and may you all be blessed for the support you’ve shown.”
Accompanying the update were powerful photos of the burnt-out home, shared in the hope of encouraging further funds to help rebuild what was lost.
Ms Saddique spoke to BirminghamLive about the emotional impact of losing their pets, saying: “It’s the cats that we are heartbroken about. They were born in my hands.
“We had the mum and they were born here. I litter trained them and everything. They were our babies in the house.
“My girls [daughters] can’t come to terms with it. We have lost so much in the house.”
