With Christmas behind us, spring cleaning season has officially arrived. Fed up with endless scrubbing in the bathroom, I set out to test seven different bathroom sprays from major supermarkets to see if any could match Flash’s performance without breaking the bank.
Flash Bathroom Spray, widely considered the UK’s number one, costs £2.35 for 800ml—around 29p per 100ml. It impressed me with abundant foam that clung to surfaces, making cleaning quick and effortless. Plus, its fresh scent lingered hours after use. I gave it a solid 5 out of 5 stars.
Searching for a cheaper alternative, I compared sprays from Asda, Tesco, M&S, Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury’s, and Morrisons based on price, ease of use, and effectiveness.

Tesco’s bathroom spray, priced at just 85p for 750ml (11p per 100ml), stood out. It delivered a fresh, zingy fragrance and created long-lasting foam that left surfaces shining with minimal scrubbing. It handled limescale well and earned 4 out of 5 stars.
Morrisons’ spray, the same price as Tesco’s, was disappointing. It required significant scrubbing, and I ultimately had to resort to Flash to finish the job. It received 1 out of 5 stars.
Sainsbury’s spray, also 85p for 750ml, produced decent foam but with a faint fragrance that didn’t linger. It cleaned effectively with moderate effort and earned 3 out of 5 stars.
Lidl’s spray had little impact on grout and lost its fresh scent quickly. It needed heavy scrubbing to clean thoroughly, earning 2 out of 5 stars.
Aldi delivered a fresh fragrance and good foam, but like Lidl, it required considerable elbow grease to tackle limescale and marks. It scored 3 out of 5 stars.
M&S’s spray stood out visually, boasting a gorgeous eucalyptus and sage scent reminiscent of a spa and housed in a striking, art deco-inspired bottle. However, it failed to foam and cleaned more like a general-purpose spray, requiring more scrubbing. The scent faded quickly, resulting in just 1 out of 5 stars.
Finally, Asda’s spray smelled fresh but lost its foam almost immediately, demanding more product and effort to clean properly. It earned 2 out of 5 stars.
In conclusion, Flash remains the fastest and most effective bathroom cleaner, but Tesco’s affordable spray is an impressive alternative—offering excellent results and a refreshing fragrance for £1.50 less. For budget-conscious shoppers aiming for a sparkling bathroom without the premium price, Tesco is a clear winner.
